I’m Sorry, Thank You, and Goodbye

Ian,

First off, I want you to know that I’m sorry for every thing. And I really mean everything… one thing being our conversations after the breakup. Even though I was the one to move out and make things more ‘final’, I was heartbroken. After working through things in therapy for a long time, I have realized that the tune of blame I put on you for our break up (not “fighting for us”) was partly a coping strategy for the pain I was feeling. I’m really sorry, because that was not fair to you. I take responsibility for what I could’ve done better, but ultimately I acknowledge that either way, our time together was meant to come to a close.

Next I want to thank you. Thank you so much for the unconditional love and support you showed me throughout our relationship. You were a wonderful human to me and all of our memories now serve as a comforting reminder of the true love we shared and the lessons learned (together and independently). I will always hold a very special place in my heart for you and Elsie.

Lastly, the realization that our break up was essential for my own growth/happiness was the toughest pill to swallow. Since parting ways, I have found more love and strength within myself than I ever thought possible. I wish nothing but the same and so much more for you.

So that is everything, and this is my goodbye. Give Elsie all my love and best of luck in your future endeavors.

Maddy
